Backwoods Custom Cabinets, LLC is more than a shop — it’s the result of years spent serving people, paying attention to details that matter, and taking pride in doing things the right way. Our roots come from fire and EMS, where precision, accountability, and trust aren’t optional — they’re required. That mindset carried straight into the way we build cabinetry today.

We’re a hands-on, family-run business that believes in quality over shortcuts. Every cabinet is built in-house by people who care about the details — the fit, the finish, the feel, the way a door closes, the way a space comes together. We don’t rush jobs, and we don’t hand your project off to strangers. When you work with us, you work directly with the craftsmen who design, build, and install your cabinetry.

Our customers come back because they know what they’re getting: honesty, craftsmanship, and work done by people who take pride in doing things right. That’s why Backwoods has grown almost entirely through word of mouth for nearly three decades — neighbors telling neighbors, families sending their friends, and contractors trusting us with their clients.

Why Backwoods

Backwoods Custom Cabinets is the shop people turn to when they need guidance, clarity, and practical solutions. Many homeowners in our area don’t have access to big‑city designers, and builders often send their clients to us because they trust us to help homeowners make smart choices that fit both the space and the budget. We serve families across Missouri, Kansas, and the greater Kansas City region — from rural remodels to new home construction — helping each customer understand what will work, what won’t, and how to get the most out of their project.

We design with real life in mind — aging in place, accessibility, storage, traffic flow, and long‑term comfort. That may mean choosing drawers instead of lower cabinets, leaving open space for wheelchair access, adjusting walk paths, or reworking a layout so it functions the way it should. When customers want something totally unique, we help them figure out how to make it happen. And when a project needs more than cabinetry, we connect them with trusted contractors who can help complete the vision.

Bryan works through every detail before a project ever begins so the builder has a clear, accurate plan to work from. If something doesn’t work the way a customer expected, or if we make a mistake, we fix it. When a designer’s plan won’t function in the real world, we explain why and help find a solution. We stay with the customer until the project is exactly what it should be — no shortcuts, no excuses.

That level of care is hard to find anywhere else. Everything is built in‑house by craftsmen who take pride in the fit, the finish, and the feel of the final product. That’s why Backwoods stands apart — and why our name carries weight across Missouri and Kansas.

Our Story

Backwoods Custom Cabinets began in a garage deep in the backwoods of Warsaw, Missouri — the kind of place you only find if someone tells you how to get there. We’ve had a blast building custom work of all kinds over the years, and even though we’re still tucked out in the sticks north of Warrensburg, people continue to seek us out for craftsmanship they can count on.

Bryan started in cabinetry as a summer job in high school, learning the trade before heading to college and beginning his fire and EMS career in Warrensburg. Even as life moved forward, the love for building never left — and neither did the drive to serve people with honesty, skill, and attention to detail.

With the support of his parents, Fred & Gerriann, Backwoods Custom Cabinets officially began in 1998 in a garage in rural Warsaw, MO. It was small, simple, and built on determination — but good work has a way of finding people.

One project turned into another, and our reputation grew the old-fashioned way: one satisfied customer at a time. We didn’t advertise much — we didn’t need to. People saw our work in their neighbors’ homes, in remodels across town, in new builds going up in the county, and they wanted the same level of craftsmanship. Contractors began calling, and the little side business needed a real home.

Bryan and Virginia built their home in 2002, and just a few years later built the shop where it stands today on County Line Road between Warrensburg and Higginsville. As demand grew, the shop grew with it — we’ve expanded it three times over the years to keep up with the work.

Backwoods grew because it was built by family. Bryan, his parents, his brother, and—beginning in 2001— Bryan and his wife Virginia and their daughters all invested years of hard work long before full‑time employees joined the team. When we began adding full‑time help nearly twenty years ago, the quality of those employees made all the difference. Many were retired craftsmen who chose to work because they cared about the craft, not because they had to, and we’ve always treated them like family. Our oldest daughter, Brooke, now works in the shop full‑time and takes great pride in her work, right alongside the rest of our team. One of our very first employees, Steve, is still with us today. That combination of family commitment and dedicated long‑time employees remains the foundation of Backwoods.

Today, Backwoods Custom Cabinets is still family-owned, still hands-on, and still built on the values that started it: work hard, pay attention, do it right, and treat people well. Our team isn’t just employees — they’re craftsmen who take pride in their work.

Both Bryan and Virginia continue to serve full‑time in fire and EMS, each with more than 30 years of service. The same precision, accountability, and commitment to doing things right that guide their work in public safety carry directly into the way Backwoods builds cabinetry today.

We measure twice. We sand until it feels right. We make sure the finish is smooth. We build cabinetry we’d be proud to put in our own home. That’s the Backwoods way — and it’s why our name carries weight across Missouri and Kansas.

A successful cabinetry project starts long before the first board is cut. Here are the things we help every customer work through:

We also provide countertop options to complete your project. While we partner with reputable fabricators for granite, quartz, and other materials, we manage the entire process — measurements, coordination, scheduling, and final installation. Your countertops will fit your cabinetry correctly, align cleanly, and finish out the space the way it should.

We keep samples on hand so you can choose materials and colors right alongside your cabinetry selections. Even though fabrication is subcontracted, the responsibility for a perfect final result stays with us. We make sure everything is installed properly and finished to match the quality of our cabinetry.
