Our Story
Backwoods Custom Cabinets began in a garage deep in the backwoods of Warsaw, Missouri — the kind of place you only find if someone tells you how to get there. We’ve had a blast building custom work of all kinds over the years, and even though we’re still tucked out in the sticks north of Warrensburg, people continue to seek us out for craftsmanship they can count on.

Even as life moved forward, the love for building never left — and neither did the drive to serve people with honesty, skill, and attention to detail.
With the support of his parents, Fred & Gerriann, Backwoods Custom Cabinets officially began in 1998 in a garage in rural Warsaw, MO. It was small, simple, and built on determination — but good work has a way of finding people.
One project turned into another, and our reputation grew the old-fashioned way: one satisfied customer at a time. We didn’t advertise much — we didn’t need to. People saw our work in their neighbors’ homes, in remodels across town, in new builds going up in the county, and they wanted the same level of craftsmanship. Contractors began calling, and the little side business needed a real home.
Bryan and Virginia built their home in 2002, and just a few years later built the shop where it stands today on County Line Road between Warrensburg and Higginsville. As demand grew, the shop grew with it — we’ve expanded it three times over the years to keep up with the work.
Backwoods grew because it was built by family. Bryan, his parents, his brother, and—beginning in 2001— Bryan and his wife Virginia and their daughters all invested years of hard work long before full‑time employees joined the team. When we began adding full‑time help nearly twenty years ago, the quality of those employees made all the difference. Many were retired craftsmen who chose to work because they cared about the craft, not because they had to, and we’ve always treated them like family. Our oldest daughter, Brooke, now works in the shop full‑time and takes great pride in her work, right alongside the rest of our team. One of our very first employees, Steve, is still with us today. That combination of family commitment and dedicated long‑time employees remains the foundation of Backwoods.
Today, Backwoods Custom Cabinets is still family-owned, still hands-on, and still built on the values that started it: work hard, pay attention, do it right, and treat people well. Our team isn’t just employees — they’re craftsmen who take pride in their work.
Both Bryan and Virginia continue to serve full‑time in fire and EMS, each with more than 30 years of service. The same precision, accountability, and commitment to doing things right that guide their work in public safety carry directly into the way Backwoods builds cabinetry today.
We measure twice. We sand until it feels right. We make sure the finish is smooth. We build cabinetry we’d be proud to put in our own home. That’s the Backwoods way — and it’s why our name carries weight across Missouri and Kansas.
